Congratulations to Xiaolu Zheng who defended her PhD thesis on July 25, 2019! Her thesis focused on the creation of a novel protein engineering method called shotgun scanning glycomutagenesis that enables comprehensive and rapid cataloging of the structural and functional consequences of site-specific glycan installation at single amino acid resolution and in a protein-agnostic manner. We anticipate that glycomutagenesis may become a useful tool for custom engineering of proteins with advantageous biophysical and biological properties.
